When a company is recruiting for the first time,it must register as a workplace.
Registration as an employer is done at the Tesorería General de la Seguridad Social (TGSS), in order to obtain the Código de Cuenta de Cotización Principal (CCC).

The contract can be made orally or in writing. It is recommended to do it in writing, in order to set out all the agreements between the parties, and for example, if it is done orally, it would directly become an indefinite contract.
The recruitment of sailors is regulated in the Estatuto de los Trabajadores, maritime ordinances and international standards.
On the other hand, the captain's or skipper's contract, being then considered as a senior management contract, is regulated by what the parties freely agree. That is to say, salary, duration of the contract, causes for termination, compensations, are subject to the arbitration of the shipowner and the skipper without any submission to El Estatuto de los Trabajadores. When there is no agreement, whether or not the contract is formalised in writing, the relationship will be regulated by a decree that regulates the senior management contract and, additionally, by the workers' statute.
Social and nautical employment security,
Social security legislation establishes a special regime for seafarers. This regime must include the heterogeneous group of people who in some way participate in the work related to navigation and is managed by the Instituto Social de la Marina.
Workers on board recreational vessels and also those workers on land, of an administrative or technical nature for companies involved in activities related to maritime traffic, fishing or other activities, are included in this regime.
When it comes to recruitment, it is necessary to take into account certain features that nautical professions have in comparison with other workers. For example, in some cases, you work on a boat which, depending on the chosen flag, will determine the applicable regulations in each case.
In the case of recreational vessels, the regulations that regulate the contracts are national.

Internship contract VS academic internship:
Depending on your relationship with the company, you will have certain rights and obligations.
Relationship with the company:
-The internship contract: It does involve an employment relation between the company and the intern.
-Academic internships: Whether or not they are for the curriculum, they do not have an employment relationship with the company. It is a collaboration agreement between the company and the student and the study centre.
Who can do an internship.
- Insternship contract: After finishing the university studies, professional training or a certificate of professionalism, and 5 years thereafter (7 years for people with disabilities).
- Academic internships: only students enrolled in study centres.
Remuneration:
- Internship contract: A salary in which the amount will never be less than the minimum interprofessional wage. Nor 60% of the salary established in the collective agreement.
- Academic internships: Neither salary nor wage. However, an aid for studying may be fixed.
Contribution:
- Internship contract: Social security contributions are always paid and are also paid for unemployment and professional training. IRPF according to particular circumstances.
- Academic internships: No contributions are paid if the internship is not remunerated. IRPF 2%.
Contribution rebates for internship contracts.
Incentives for companies, aid of €500/year if an internship contract is converted into a indefinite contract, for companies with fewer than 50 employees. ( 700 €/year if female).
Duration:
- Internship contract: A minimum of 6 months and a maximum of 2 years. Specify the timetable in the contract.
- Academic internships: A maximum of the 50% of the duration of the course or 6 months. Timetable has to be compatible with studies

– Aids for the promotion of employment:
Rebates in social security contributions for recruitment in the following cases:
- Temporary period. When a worker is on paternity, maternity or breastfeeding leave, he/she can apply for this aid, which completely subsidises the social security contribution, for a minimum period of one month.
- Family conciliation. When you have to take care of children under 12 years of age or disabled dependents, for 12 months, the social security contribution can be reduced by 100% if the contract is indefinite, and 50% if it is partial.
- Recruitment of family members, 2nd degree of consanguinity, and a reduction of 50% for the first 18 months.
- Rebates for interships.
